Wellness Within Welcomes NDP-Liberal Deal on Pharmacare Including Universal Contraception After Years of Advocacy

The announcement that national contraception coverage could be coming to Canada amid the new pharmacare agreement is exciting and promising news. This development is historic and embodies what we have long known: that access to contraception and reproductive healthcare is a basic human right.

Wellness Within joins reproductive justice advocates across the country in urging the government to ensure the plan covers as many contraceptive methods as possible so that cost does not remain a limiting factor. Coverage must include hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs, contraceptive implant, patch, vaginal ring, oral contraceptive pills, injectable contraception and emergency contraception.

We have recognized financial barriers to contraception access as one of the most pressing human rights and gender equity issues of our time, inciting years of advocacy, and we are thrilled to celebrate this win.
