Our Vision

We are working for reproductive justice, prison abolition, and health equity.

WHAT WE DO

We are doulas, nurses, midwives, physicians, social workers, lawyers, students, policymakers, researchers, writers, educators, and mentors who have experienced criminalization firsthand. We are a feminist, anti-racist, anti-poverty, pro-LGBTQ2S+, pro-inclusion organization.

We are a volunteer-based non-profit organization. Our work prioritizes full-spectrum reproductive healthcare and reproductive justice, prison abolition, and health equity. We facilitate workshops and education sessions for the public, students, health care professionals, and women, trans, and nonbinary people who have experienced criminalization. We develop resource materials. We collaborate. We advocate for decarceration and access to housing, income, resources and health care for women, trans, and nonbinary people who have experienced criminalization.

We serve women and transgender/nonbinary individuals who have experienced criminalization and are pregnant or have young children.

Wellness Within helped to pioneer doula access for incarcerated individuals through advocacy and by providing on the ground support in the Nova Institution for Federal Prison, the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility Provincial Jail, and the Nova Scotia Youth Facility as well as in the community to those out on bail and parole. This advocacy has ensured that all pregnant individuals incarcerated at the Central Nova Scotia Facility Provincial Jail (Burnside) have access to doula support, which is ongoing.
