Naiomi Metallic is Mìgmaq from the Listuguj First Nation and is a lawyer and an Associate Professor and Chancellor’s Chair in Aboriginal Law and Policy at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. Her work focuses on how the law can be used to promote the well-being and self-determination of Indigenous peoples in Canada, including the revitalization of their legal orders. She is currently writing a PhD about using the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a framework for the exercise of self-government. She is also working with Indigenous communities in the region to revitalize their laws through their language and stories.
