Hundreds join women's rights activists in rally for public inquiry into mass shooting

Martha Paynter, chairwoman of the Women’s Wellness Within organization, said without analyzing the root causes of society’s misogyny, “we will continue to fall flat.”

But Paynter and Lecker say the independent review is “unacceptable.” 

“This review does not have the necessary feminist analysis that looks at this history of domestic violence that we see repeated and repeated every single time we have one of these tragedies,” Paynter said. 

“It begins with violence against women and its culminates in a public disaster.” 

Paynter, Lecker and several other women’s rights activists were joined by nearly 200 people in downtown Halifax to continue to demand the government call a public inquiry, which would include an intersectional feminist analysis that could result in systemic change.
