Hundreds join women's rights activists in rally for public inquiry into mass shooting

“heri Lecker says as the executive director of Adsum for Women and Children, she hears daily of the violence women have experienced. 

In many instances the violence is at the hand of her partner, Lecker said, similar to what unfolded in Portapique on the night of April 18. 

And according to witnesses, there were many red flags that went ignored before the tragic event.

“We see that people are often immune to the violence. It’s been normalized, ” Lecker said Monday. 

Martha Paynter, chairwoman of the Women’s Wellness Within organization, said without analyzing the root causes of society’s misogyny, “we will continue to fall flat.”
